In the study of IDT I was able to get a grasp of how important technological skills can be in today's modern world. Studying the theorists and reviewing their principles and concepts helped me to understand how important it is for the future job market to be able to use and master simple technology and to go further. All too often you hear people make the comment "I'm not techno savvy" but all it requires is spending time with the technology and not being afraid. Young people who grew up this era of gaming technology, smart phones, iPads and all forms of computers and laptops are very comfortable manipulating the technology to make it do whatever they wish. While older citizens have fears that are totally ungrounded, but they come to realize if they want to keep up with the changing times they have to adapt and make the adjustments and learn the skills.
Oftentimes older citizens can't afford to retire early so they are caught in the in between years where they have to maintain jobs in the current markets but lack the skills. Instructional Designers are trying to make sure that the future of the new millennium have the necessary workers to get all the new types of jobs that have been developed done and that this country is not left behind in the technology wars. If the world grows half as fast as it did in the first millennium we will have a ton of new technological advancements that have never been heard of today. Now we do so many things our day to day lives have changed considerably in just the last twenty-five years. Below are a few samples of work that I have done in just the last few months that are so different from those things I did a few years back. Writing blogs is brand new to me; analyzing the impact of technology on my field is also different. These are major growth changes just in my personal life and knowledge base.
Having the opportunity to re-evaluate instructional design theorists and what impacts they have even on today's educational practices and pedagogy gives me a time for pause reviewing how much things have changed, but yet stayed basically the same. You realize such theorists as Vygotsky and Piaget where far ahead of their times when their theories can withstand review decade after decade and still be applicable and have merit. But they are not the only ones who fit into this mold; such researchers as: Gardner, Bruner, Montessori, Dewey, Froebel, and Mann to name a few. All of these theorists made an impact on some level of learning that changed how children where taught and yet their theories still stand as a measure of how much we have grown. All of the courses taken have been enlightening and informative and gave me a chance to go further in-depth in my studies and understanding of the various researchers.

1.This was a piece written on Instructional Designers from ETEC 561. This class and the readings from it gave me a whole new prospective about what educators are expected to do the help young learners fit into the global community. It also showed me what I needed to do as a museum educator to compliment the teacher in her efforts to get students ready to be self motivated life-long learners and informal learning settings, such as museums, help in that grand program.

2.This was a blog post on IDT that was written after reading chapters 18-22 of our assigned readings. My approach to this posting was based upon my prior knowledge of a period that I actually lived and could relate to either by personal experience or experiences of family members who relayed family history from the time period. Another part of the reasoning for choosing this for discussion because my daughter is a certified Project Manager (PMP) and works in the field and gave me a lot of insight as to how project managers work in any field.

3. These are other examples of a blog that was created after completing ETEC 524. I found that I really learned a lot from maintaining and keeping up with blogs. As a result of the very first blog that I learned to do I created the Adult Informal Learning blog, shown in this eportfolio, it is an adult learning class were I assist an IT professional to teach senior citizens technological skills. By being a part of this informal teaching situation for other adults it has taught me so much more about the aspects of technology and the tools we use to do a task better and faster that I did not know. So I am learning by helping them to learn; I am learning by sitting in on the class sessions and assisting them to master the techniques needed for proficiency in computer usage. My only problem is my learning curve takes up so much of my time. But slow and steady wins the race; its not how fast I learn it; its just that I learn it and am comfortable doing so. This whole journey has been exciting and exhilarating. I can remember when I was where these students are just a few years ago. Nervous, scared and wondering if I could break the computer by simply touching it incorrectly!
