The Boomers Adventures in Technology

Boomer's Learning to maneuver through using current technology

An IT specialist was asked by our church, Cathedral of Faith COGIC, to serve as a computer training instructor for a volunteer program at a senior citizen’s residence home in the mid-city as a part of the Women's Mission Auxiliary Group. This would be an outreach sponsored by that group as an extension of their community program. I serve as her assistant and together we are helping other mature adults to become familiar with using computers, tablets, and smart phones.

This session we are walking the class through the steps in uploading photos to your PC. This is done by connecting your device to your computer and using Windows Photos app.
Supplies needed:  USB wire for phone, computer with photo application, smart phone with photos or USB drive with pictures on it.
How to: Download pictures from your phone
1. Click Start Icon (it appears as a window in the lower left hand side of the screen
2. The menu will bring you directly to the list of apps that start with  "P." from here you can select Photos from the list. (The first time you open Photos App you will get an over view.. This will only come up the first time, so read through it.)

What is on this page that you need to observe?
Locate the following three places along the ribbon: Import button -
lets you download new pictures from your phone or memory stick. Select button - lets you selects which pictures you want to work with from your collection. Timeline - lets you search for pictures based on when and where they were taken.

On this same page Collections and you will notice a title called The Collection Page This is what's listed on that section: Goto Collection heading in upper left-hand side.
  • Is the first page that shows in the Photo application
  • Shows all the pictures in your computers picture folder.
  • Pictures are organized by date and time taken
  • Shows pictures on a timeline.
Click on Albums the page title The Albums Page
  • Allows you to create digital albums
  • Gather related photos and videos
  • Creates Automatic Albums for you based on photos you have added.
Click on Video projects
  • Lets you create automated slideshows
  • Add music to slide shows
  • And share videos you create
Click on People
  • Automatically finds faces of people in your pictures
  • Lets you tag the faces
  • Will look for those faces in other pictures
  • Will group[ all the pictures of the same faces
Click on Folders
  • Lets you add additional folders to your picture library
  • Browse collections by folder
  • View pictures on external devices
Step 3 Click Import. It's in the upper-right side of the Photos window and find the Import Icon. This link is on the right side of the window. Click a Wait for your computer to find your photos.  Your computer will search for connected items, such as a USB flash drive and your phone.  This may take awhile.
Step 4 Select photos to move. By default, every photo and video on your phone is selected; click selected photos to de-select them or click Clear all to de-select every photo and video and then click only the ones you want to move.
