The Boomers Adventures in Technology

Boomer's Learning to maneuver through using current technology

An IT specialist was asked by our church, Cathedral of Faith COGIC, to serve as a computer training instructor for a volunteer program at a senior citizen’s residence home in the mid-city as a part of the Women's Mission Auxiliary Group. This would be an outreach sponsored by that group as an extension of their community program. I serve as her assistant and together we are helping other mature adults to become familiar with using computers, tablets, and smart phones.

Session II - More Student!!

In this session two ladies attended.  It was a very good class and they were excited about having a regular instructor.  They had been requesting for one for more than a year. They had a teacher but she did not stay and they complained about what she did not teach them. We had plenty of time to see exactly what they needed and wanted out of the program. We made some observations about what we would need to do an effective job.
The room was small and had only two desk top computers and not much room for additional tables.  When the instructor looked at current computers their operating system were very old.  But we decided to trek on. After this session we brainstormed to see what other things were lacking.
  • Needed more computers in case the class got larger
  • Not enough outlets so extension cords would be needed
  • Laptops would work as additional stations
  • More tables for set-up and place for students to work
  • Notebooks for all students to keep handouts
