The Boomers Adventures in Technology

Boomer's Learning to maneuver through using current technology

An IT specialist was asked by our church, Cathedral of Faith COGIC, to serve as a computer training instructor for a volunteer program at a senior citizen’s residence home in the mid-city as a part of the Women's Mission Auxiliary Group. This would be an outreach sponsored by that group as an extension of their community program. I serve as her assistant and together we are helping other mature adults to become familiar with using computers, tablets, and smart phones.

One of the students shared a flier that she created for their luncheon for the 4th of July.  She did a very good job and we spent the class talking about how she could improve them for future events and what added items she could have used to make it even nicer. We spent the class with everyone making fliers from garage sale events to special outings. Everyone was excited and was proud of their creations.
I talked with the computer people at TCU and started the ball rolling for the purchase of refurbished computers for the class.  They had grant money that they could use for something like that.  Everyone was so excited. No more sharing computers was going to be a reality soon. Once or twice a year the university changes out employee computers and offer them for sale to the faculty and staff. I wrote a letter to the head of IT and asked could we purchased several for this non-profit residence housing unit. We are anxiously awaiting their response!
