The Boomers Adventures in Technology

Boomer's Learning to maneuver through using current technology

An IT specialist was asked by our church, Cathedral of Faith COGIC, to serve as a computer training instructor for a volunteer program at a senior citizen’s residence home in the mid-city as a part of the Women's Mission Auxiliary Group. This would be an outreach sponsored by that group as an extension of their community program. I serve as her assistant and together we are helping other mature adults to become familiar with using computers, tablets, and smart phones.

Session XIX-Making Fliers & Cards

This is a very socially active group and several of the ladies in the class are community leaders.  They needed to make fliers and posters of upcoming events to distribute to the residents.  So this session was dedicated to learning how to make a flier and later session we will focus on cards that they can create. They also learned how to insert their clipart pictures from their thumb drives into their creations. As well and putting border work around the edge of the paper.

The idea of being able to do this was received well and they all showed up for this session which was difficult because of our lack of equipment.  But the instructor and I had small laptops that we had started bringing to class since the beginning sessions which has helped a lot as the class grew.  Also, we needed a laptop to connect to the projector that we bring to each session to introduce the lessons where everyone can see what is being done and how.  Having this extra equipment has proven to be a real advantage since the site only had the two table top computers.
